Question  Can I shutdown a remote computer?

Yes, you can reboot a remote computer using Shutdown. However, not our utility! Microsoft has taken our command line shutdown utility idea and is now distributing it with the operating system. With Windows XP, 2003, Vista and 2008 Microsoft includes a utility called shutdown.exe (nice name, huh?).

Microsoft also updated its API to allow for more options, so the shutdown utility that is shipped with Windows XP, 2003, Vista and 2008 has many more options that our shutdown utility. It has the option to shutdown a remote computer, as well has many more options. From the command line type in shutdown /? (make sure you are not getting the help from OUR utility), for a list of all of the options.

Oh another nice thing with Windows 2003/2008 is the "reason for shutdown" dialog box. Using Microsoft's utility you have to specify the reason for the shutdown (our shutdown utility still works not requiring a reason).

If you are not running Windows XP, 2003, Vista or 2008 - sorry, we are not going to invest any more time into our utility to support remote shutdown. It makes sense, why spend time on our utility when there already is one distributed with the OS by Microsoft?

Our shutdown utility will remain on our site forver, as a great command line utility. Just don't expect us to add any more features to it. :) If you have any comments, we would be glad to hear from you!
