The temp file age threshold controls how old a temporary file must be before RJL System Cleaner will offer to delete it. The default is 7 days.
This means temporary files created in the last 7 days are left alone, because they might still be needed by a running program. Only temp files older than 7 days are included in scan results.
You can change this in Settings under the Cleaning tab:
- 0 days -- clean all temp files regardless of age (more aggressive)
- 7 days -- the default, matches Windows Disk Cleanup behavior
- 30 days -- more conservative, only cleans old temp files
- Up to 90 days -- very conservative
This setting applies to user temporary files and system temporary files. Other categories like browser cache, error reports, and application caches are cleaned regardless of age because they are always safe to remove.
Windows system log files always use a 30-day threshold regardless of this setting, to ensure recent diagnostic logs are preserved for troubleshooting.
