Will the victim know it is a prank right away?

Not usually. The first few cursor copies might go unnoticed. But as the copies accumulate, the victim starts seeing multiple cursors and cannot figure out which one is real. Most people think their display is glitching or their graphics driver is malfunctioning before they suspect a prank.
